Meetings held Fridays at 7:15 am
Treehouse Resturant
Heritage Ridge Golf Club, Hobe Sound, FL

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. It is not far from our homes right here in Florida. The Hobe Sound/Port Salerno Rotary Club has taken on a project to help. This literacy project is patterned after a similar effort in Santa Cruz, Bolivia which also provides pens and pencils for education. These important tool are often taken for granted in more developed countries, but are imperative in learning to read and write. The donations are gathered from individuals and companies who recognize the importance of education in bringing people out of the bondage of poverty. Rotarian/American Airlines pilot Jeff Johnson, pictured on the right, arranges to have the boxes hand-delivered to a Rotarian at the airport in Port au Prince Haiti. On occasion, Jeff himself personally delivers the pens, pencils and other writing supplies. The club now maintains a sister club relationship with the Petion-ville, Haiti club.

If you wish to contribute to the project, please contact Jeff Johnson at mallard55@bellsouth.net
